Born in Mount Union on January 9, 1935, Charles J. “Buckwheat” Secrest graduated from Captain Jack High School in 1953, where he lettered in three sports. He signed with the Kansas City Athletics organization and played professional baseball for ten seasons (1954-1963), working his way up through Ada, Seminole, Pocatello, Abilene, Little Rock, Portland, Dallas-Fort Worth, Shreveport, Albuquerque, and Binghamton — 992 games, a .282 career average, 49 home runs, and 478 RBI.
His 1959 Topps/Sporting News “Rookie Stars” card pictured him in an Athletics uniform and predicted he'd “make his Major League debut this season” — but per his official career record, that call-up never came; he spent his entire pro career in the high minors. After baseball, he worked as a crane operator at Standard Steel, retiring in 1986. He died October 10, 2019, in Burnham, PA, survived by his wife Nancy (63 years married) and their family.

For more than four decades, Nick Imperioli was the heart of Mount Union baseball. Born November 5, 1943 in Mount Union, he graduated from Captain Jack High School in 1961 and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Shippensburg University, teaching English for 35-plus years — most of them at his alma mater, Mount Union Area School District.
As head baseball coach from 1973 to 2016 — 43 seasons — he built one of the winningest programs in District 6: a career record of 767-208-3, 25 league championships, 27 District 6 finalist appearances, 17 District 6 championships, and PIAA state titles in 1988, 1993 & 1995, plus two state runner-up finishes. Of the program's four state titles, three came under Coach Imperioli — all but the 2019 title, won three years after his retirement.
He passed away April 13, 2025, survived by his wife of 54 years, Cinda G. (Knox) Imperioli, daughter Jennifer Komir, and grandchildren Mackenzie and Alexandra Komir. “The Shakespeare of the Diamond” — his legacy lives on in every Trojan who wore the uniform.
